Lessons
Prior to lessons, it is important to come to Ascot for a tour of our facility, acquaint yourself with our program, watch ongoing lessons, and to meet our horses and ponies. Please see our contact information to schedule an appointment for a tour (tours usually last approximately 30 minutes).
All new students begin with one hour private introductory lessons. It is important, even for an experienced rider, to be introduced to Ascot's barn routines and how we properly groom and tack up our horses. For the novice, the lessons are progressive, focusing on a specific detail of grooming and/or tacking. A half hour riding lesson is incorporated within the hour lesson.
The hour lessons continue until the student is proficient at grooming and tacking, and can be mounted and warming up their horse at a walk unassisted. Parents or caregivers are welcome and strongly encouraged to participate, especially if the student is too young to accomplish the tasks.
As soon as the student is ready, the private hour lessons drop to half hour private lessons. At this point, the student needs to come to the barn in plenty of time to get their horse, groom him properly, tack him, and be ready for the private lesson. At the end of the lesson, the student will be responsible for cooling their horse out, untacking, and putting their horse away, as taught in the hour lessons. This can make for a great afternoon or morning experience, and we encourage our students to take their time and enjoy our horses and barn.
Riders must be at least six years of age.
